Two men who pleaded no contest to assaulting a Marine reservist, who died a day after the August 2013 attack in Old Town Pasadena, were sentenced Wednesday to 180 days of county jail and 30 days Caltrans service.
Jonas Cardenas Ramos, 25, of San Gabriel, and Angel Christopher Moroyoqui, 22, of El Monte, were also sentenced to three years probation.
The two pleaded no contest to assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury involving the Aug. 5, 2013, attack on Joshua Martinez, a 25-year- old Marine reservist at Camp Pendleton.
Two other men, Jonathan Pierre Aquino, 26, of El Monte, and Timothy Scott Coley, 24, of West Covina, pleaded no contest to the same charge and were sentenced July 16 to 60 days of community service and three years probation.
A fifth defendant, Fernando Sabino Ramirez, 26, of Rowland Heights, was convicted Monday of involuntary manslaughter and assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury.
Jurors also found true an allegation that Ramirez personally inflicted a sufficient injury that left the victim comatose due to a brain injury.
Ramirez is due back in a Pasadena courtroom for sentencing Dec. 1, when he faces up to nine years in state prison.
Martinez was attacked outside a restaurant in the city’s Old Town area. Video showed Martinez falling during the assault and hitting his head on the street. He was taken to a hospital and died the next day.
