Sheriff’s detectives sought public help Wednesday to find three men suspected in the kidnapping and sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl who was abducted from a Bassett street.
The suspects were in a car that stopped in the 600 block of Van Wig Avenue, in front of where the girl was walking, about 6:30 p.m. Friday, said Deputy Amber Smith of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
Two men got out of the car, and one of them blindfolded the girl, who was forced into the vehicle. Another man stayed in the driver’s seat.
“The victim told detectives she was sexually assaulted, then released,” Smith said, adding that the suspects drove south on Van Wig Avenue and out of sight after letting the girl go free.
She was dropped off in the same area where she was abducted and was warned not to report what happened.
The suspects who got out of the vehicle were described as Hispanic men between 20 and 27 years of age, and between 5 feet 9 inches and 6 feet tall. A composite drawing was released of one of the suspects. The Honda is possibly a late 1990s model and the first three letters of its license plate are possibly “2WE.”
Anyone with information on the crime was urged to contact investigating detectives by calling the sheriff’s Special Victims Bureau hotline at (877) 710- 5273. Anonymous tips can be provided by calling Crime Stoppers at (800) 222- TIPS.
