A bomb threat cleared Palomares Junior High School in Pomona on Wednesday.

Police working with bomb-sniffing dogs searched school buildings but found nothing out of the ordinary, Sgt. Matthew Stone said.

The threat at Palomares Junior High, 2211 N. Orange Grove Ave., was phoned in about 12:30 p.m., Stone said.

“Someone called the school and said they were going to blow it up,” Stone said. “So we evacuated all the students, teachers, and school personnel and began a search of the building.”

About 385 students attend the school.

Stone said neither the dogs nor the officers turned up any sign of a bomb, and the search was suspended about 3:15 p.m.

“It was a hoax, and it wasted a lot of manpower,” Stone said.

Students were released to their parents or guardians on Orange Grove Avenue south of Arrow Highway, according to police.
