A 23-year-old man described as a San Fernando Valley gang member was arrested on suspicion of murder Sunday for the shooting death of a man in Hollywood, police said.
Officers patrolling Hollywood Boulevard heard gunshots about 11:40 p.m. Saturday and upon investigation found a man in a crosswalk at Hollywood Boulevard and Las Palmas Avenue suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, said Officer Nuria Vanegas of the Los Angeles Police Department‘s Media Relations Section.
Paramedics rushed the man to a hospital, where he died from his injuries, she said. His name has not been released pending family notifications.
The arrested suspect was identified as Michael Vincent Carter of Los Angeles, police said.
“Detectives believe the motive is gang related. The suspect is a San Fernando Valley gang member,” according to a police statement.
Detectives are not seeking additional suspects but they are looking for additional suspects.
“Investigators believe there were two males with the victim at the time of the murder and would like to talk (to) them,” police said.
Carter, who was arrested about 1:35 a.m., was being held in lieu of $1 million bail, according to sheriff’s online inmate records.
