A 25-year-old suicidal woman suffered critical head injuries Tuesday when she jumped off the Florence Avenue overpass at the San Gabriel River in Downey, police said.
Officers sent to the scene about 11:30 a.m. found the woman in the riverbed, said Downey police Lt. Mark McDaniel.
Paramedics rushed her to an area hospital in critical condition, McDaniel said. Prior to the arrival of police, witnesses reported that the woman was alone at the time and jumped from the overpass in an apparent suicide attempt, he said.
The name of the woman, a Downey resident, was withheld.
