A baby girl was delivered in a homeless encampment in an alley behind a church and homes in South Los Angeles.

The birth occurred about 12:45 a.m. Monday in an alley behind 47th Place at San Pedro Street, a news videographer reported from the scene.

Occupants of a homeless encampment delivered the baby girl and cut the umbilical cord but couldn’t clamp it, the videographer said. Los Angeles firefighters responded and clamped the umbilical cord before transporting the baby and mother to hospitals.
