The reported kidnapping of a woman found today in Huntington Beach was a hoax, Vallejo police said tonight.
“Today there is no evidence to support the claims that this was a stranger abduction or an abduction at all,” police Lt. Kenny Park said.
“Given the facts that have been presented thus far, this event appears to be an orchestrated event and not a kidnapping.”
If Denise Huskins or her boyfriend committed any criminal act in the false story, Vallejo police will seek federal charges, Park said.
Huskins disappeared early Monday from her home in Vallejo. Her 30-year- old boyfriend told police she had been kidnapped about 2 a.m. Monday and was being held for ransom, but he didn’t contact authorities until nearly 12 hours later.
Huskins called her father this morning to say she was in Huntington Beach, according to Huntington Beach police Officer Jennifer Marlatt.
Huskins’ parents were still in Vallejo at the time, Marlatt said. Huskins’ father called Vallejo police to say she was in Huntington Beach and Vallejo investigators in turn relayed the information to Huntington Beach detectives.
Huntington Beach police went to her mother’s home and the residence of another relative, Marlatt said. Huskins was found in good condition at her relative’s home at 208 19th St., Marlatt said.
Huskins left that relative’s home with family to stay elsewhere for the time being, Marlatt said. Her family is arranging to have her sent back to Vallejo, Marlatt said.
Huntington Beach police declined to provide details about how Huskins got to Huntington Beach.
