A suspect in a fatal hit-and-run accident in the parking lot of a Carson shopping mall has turned himself in, authorities said Wednesday.

The male victim was struck by a black Camaro in the parking lot of the South Bay Pavilion in the 20700 block of South Avalon Boulevard around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Jodi Hutak said.

Deputy Kelvin Moody said the 28-year-old victim and a 20-year-old man got into an argument during a car club meeting in the parking lot. The argument escalated into a fight involving the two and their friends, Moody said.

At some point, Moody said, the 20-year-old got into his car and drove away, striking the victim as he did so.

The victim died at a hospital and the suspect later turned himself in at the Carson sheriff’s station, Moody said.

The fatality remained under investigation, and it was not clear if the 20-year-old’s actions were intentional or accidental, Moody said.
