A Department of Children and Family Services employee made up a story last month that two suspects threw a chemical on her in Santa Fe Springs, causing burns to her arms, police said Thursday.

Mary Quinones had claimed she was attacked by a man and a woman about 4:25 p.m. on Aug. 19 in the parking lot of a DCFS office at 10355 Slusher Drive, according to the Whittier Police Department, which patrols Santa Fe Springs.

She was treated at the scene and then taken to a hospital, police said.

“The Whittier Police Department conducted a thorough investigation into the facts in this case and determined that the assault did not occur,” according to a police statement. “It was also determined that no other person was responsible for the injuries sustained by Quinones.”

Quinones has been charged with a misdemeanor count of filing a false police report, police said.
