A man suspected of ransacking the bedroom of a home in Pico Rivera was found hiding inside a closet and held until deputies arrived, sheriff’s deputy said Monday.
A couple returned about 7 p.m. Sunday to their home in the 9400 block of Melita Street and found a bedroom had been ransacked, said Deputy Juanita Navarro-Suarez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff‘s Headquarters Bureau.
“After calling their son-in-law, who arrived and searched the home, the suspect was found hiding in a closet. The suspect was holding what appeared to be a weapon in his hand, and the son-in-law quickly struck the suspect in the face with his fist,” Navarro-Suarez said.
“The elderly man and his son-in-law held the suspect, pinning him to the floor until the arrival of Pico Rivera deputies, who took the 40-year-old suspect into custody.”
The suspect, identified as Pico Rivera resident Cesar Vargas, was taken first to a hospital, where he was found to be uninjured, and then to the Pico Rivera Station, where he was booked on suspicion of burglary and possession of drug paraphernalia, Navarro-Suarez said.
Vargas was being held in lieu of $50,000 bail, Navarro-Suarez said.
“The elderly couple and their son-in-law were not injured,” Navarro-Suarez said.
