A fire broke out condo in a five-story condominium building on Wilshire Boulevard near Hancock Park, and one person was injured as he evacuated the smoky blaze, a fire department spokesman said.

The fire inside the 36-unit condo building at 4471 Wilshire Blvd. in Hancock Park was reported at 1:13 p.m., according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey.

The plume was visible from 10 miles away, and the smoke was concentrated on the third floor, according to Humphrey. The fire damage was mostly confined to one condo.

A 22-year-old man sustained a foot cut while exiting the building, Humphrey added. He was treated at the scene and released.

Fifty-five firefighters were dispatched to the scene and a knockdown was declared at 1:40 p.m., according to Humphrey. Its cause remained under investigation, Humphrey said.

A portion of Wilshire Boulevard was temporarily closed to traffic east of Rossmore Drive, and west of Crenshaw Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
