Amir Ali Rasheed Bass pleaded no contest Oct. 6 to hit-and-run in connection with the death of Martina Olivacce, who tried to intervene in an argument Feb. 26 between her daughter and Bass as he sat inside his vehicle on Doty Avenue.
Bass backed up his car, hitting Olivacce and pinning her under a tire before fleeing the scene, according to prosecutors. He was arrested that day by Hawthorne police and has remained behind bars since then.
Two other counts that were filed earlier this year against Bass — gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage causing injury — were dismissed as a result of his plea.
