The California Highway Patrol Friday reported no traffic-related deaths on Los Angeles County highways during the first 12 hours of this Christmas holiday season.
The reporting period began at 6 p.m. Thursday and will end at 11:59 p.m. Sunday, CHP Sgt. Melissa Hammond said.
During that same time period last year, there were also no traffic- related deaths on Los Angeles County highways, according to a CHP news statement.
Statewide, so far in the first 12-hour period, there were five traffic- related deaths, one less than last year’s total of six.
In Los Angeles County, during the first 12 hours, CHP officers arrested 38 motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, 16 more than last year’s total of 22. Statewide, there were 156 DUI arrests, in comparison to 140 last year.
