Two convicted felons were arrested in a stolen car by Irwindale Police, authorities said Monday.
The two men were arrested during a traffic stop around Vincent Avenue and Arrow Highway at about 4:20 p.m. Saturday, said Det. Sgt. Greg Gomez of the Irwindale Police.
The officer originally stopped the black 2005 Infiniti QX56 SUV with dealer plates when the driver committed a vehicle code violation, Gomez said. “During the officer’s investigation he learned that the vehicle had been reported stolen to the California Highway Patrol Santa Fe Springs office.”
The officer searched the vehicle and found an unregistered .380 caliber semiautomatic handgun, Gomez said. The officer also found in the suspects’ possession fraudulent and altered credit cards, identity information and other items with various names and identities.
Twenty-seven-year-old Donnie Jesse Reyes and 37-year-old Ricardo Augustine Reyes, both of San Bernardino, were arrested on suspicion of taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent, possession of a concealed firearm, possession of fraudulent credit cards and being convicted felons in possession of a firearm, Gomez said.
They were booked into the Baldwin Park City Jail with Donnie Reyes’ bail set at $125,000 and Ricardo Reyes held in lieu of $25,000 bail. Both are due to make their first appearance in a West Covina courtroom Wednesday, according to the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department’s inmate records.
