A gang member was sentenced Tuesday to 80 years to life in state prison for a shooting that left one man dead and wounded another man nearly two years ago.
Michael Angel Daniel, 37, of Compton, was convicted March 9 of first- degree murder for the May 21, 2014, killing of David Scott, 31, along with the attempted murder of another man.
Jurors also found true gang and gun allegations.
The panel was the third jury to hear the case against him. Two other juries had deadlocked on the charges.
Scott and the attempted murder victim were standing outside of a house in the 1100 block of East Bennett Street in Compton when they were shot, according to Deputy District Attorney Danette Gomez.
Sheriff’s deputies subsequently located the car that witnesses described having fled from the scene and found bullet casings in the vehicle, according to court testimony.
Daniel was arrested the day after the shooting and has remained behind bars since then.
