An off-duty LAPD motorcycle officer on his way to work was injured Wednesday in a crash involving another vehicle on the westbound Pomona (60) Freeway in Ontario.

The officer, whose name was not released, was riding a police motorcycle when the accident occurred, Im said.

According to the California Highway Patrol’s preliminary investigation, the officer was riding in the carpool lane when traffic began slowing and an SUV in the adjacent No. 1 lane swerved to the left and collided with the motorcycle.

The officer was airlifted to a hospital following the crash, said Los Angeles Police Department Officer Tony Im. He is expected to survive.

The other motorist was taken to a hospital for examination of a possible injury.

The accident occurred about 11:15 a.m. at Mountain Avenue.
