An ex-Los Angeles sheriff’s deputy will make his first court appearance Monday after he was arrested for the bloody stabbing murder of his wife in the city of San Fernando.

The couple’s two children were in the home at the time of the killing, but it wasn’t known if they witnessed the attack. Neither child was injured.

Authorities Friday identified the woman who was stabbed to death in San Fernando and whose husband — a former Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy — was arrested in her killing.

San Fernando Police officers were sent to the 1000 block of Griswold Avenue about 2:55 a.m. Thursday regarding a 911 call of a “medical emergency, possible assault,” according to a sheriff’s statement.

The 33-year-old victim, identified by coroner’s and sheriff’s officials as Deseret Favila of San Fernando, was pronounced dead at the scene. Sheriff’s homicide detectives were assisting San Fernando police in the investigation.

The woman’s husband, 37-year-old Jorge Casas, was detained as a possible suspect at the scene and questioned.

Casas, who served for two years as a deputy before resigning in 2006 for personal reasons, according to a sheriff’s department statement, was booked into the San Fernando Police Department jail at 6:10 p.m. Thursday on suspicion of murder, according to online sheriff’s inmate records.

He is being held in lieu of a $2 million bond and his first court appearance is set for 8:30 a.m. Monday in San Fernando, records show.
