A wounded driver managed to steer his vehicle to a hospital early Saturday after an SUV pulled up alongside him and an occupant opened fire in a car-to-car shooting in South Los Angeles near Normandie Park.

The mystery gunfire erupted at 3:10 a.m. on 38th Street near Normandie Avenue, according to Sgt. Jesse Murphy of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Southwest Station. Authorities did not speculate about a motive for the attack.

The victim was dropping off friends in the area when someone inside of a gray Chevrolet Suburban that pulled alongside his vehicle fired shots into his car, Murphy said.

The victim was struck once in the upper right chest area, Murphy said. He drove himself to a friend’s home where he was picked up by Los Angeles Fire Department personnel and taken to a hospital, he added.

The victim’s wound was not life-threatening, Murphy said.

A description of the shooter was not immediately available. No other details were available, including a posslble motive.
