The Pomona Police Department has announced a specialized Bicycle Safety Enforcement Operation for the entire month of May.
Extra officers will be patrolling areas frequented by bicyclists and where a high number of bicycle crashes occur, the department reported.
The special policing effort coincides with May’s National Bicycle Safety Month. California recently enacted the Move Over Law to share the road, requiring motorists to pass bike riders with at least a 3-feet cushion.
“Spring has arrived after a wet winter season, which makes it a great time for family and friends to strap on a helmet, hop on a bike and just see how fun and welcoming our community’s streets and bike paths are,” Pomona Police Sgt. William Knight said. “Whether a person rides or drives, everyone should know about bicycle safety, now more than ever.”
During the special policing effort, officers will focus on violations by both motorists and bicyclists.
