A 10-year-old boy was fatally injured in a two-car crash on the transition road from the southbound San Diego (405) Freeway to the eastbound Glen Anderson (105) Freeway in Lennox, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Authorities Monday asked anyone who may have knowledge of the tragedy to contact them.
The crash happened about 10:50 p.m. Saturday, just south of Imperial Highway, according to the CHP.
Daniel Tapia, 28, of Los Angeles was driving his 2015 Nissan south on the 405 Freeway and attempting to head east on the 105 Freeway, the CHP reported.
Meanwhile, 29-year-old Larry Roe of Long Beach, was driving his 2003 Nissan in the same direction. Inside his car were three other passengers — 29- year-old Mary White and two children — a 10-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl, according to the CHP.
For some reason Roe stopped his car on the right shoulder of the transition road, the CHP reported. Tapia, according to the CHP, made an unsafe turn and slammed into the rear of Roe’s car.
The crash left Roe, White, Tapia and the unnamed girl with minor injuries. All of them were taken to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Westwood. The 10-year-old boy was also taken there but died at the hospital. His name was not released by the CHP.
Alcohol and/or drugs was not a factor in the crash, according to the CHP.
There’s no word yet on whether Tapia was cited for the crash.
