An approximately 40-year-old man was struck and killed by a Metrolink train Friday in East Los Angeles.

The victim was struck about 3:50 p.m. in the 5100 block of State University Drive, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Metrolink announced that San Bernardino Line train 316 had hit a person on the tracks.

The eastbound train hit the man about one-half mile west of the Cal State LA Station, according to Ramon Montenegro of the Sheriff’s Transit Policing Division.

All trains share a single track through that area and major delays were expected in either direction on the San Bernardino line, Montenegro said.
