The California Highway Patrol Saturday reported no fatalities on Los Angeles County highways during the first 12 hours of this year’s Independence Day holiday weekend.

The reporting period began at 6:01 p.m. Friday and ended Saturday at 6 a.m., the CHP reported.

During that same time period last year, the CHP reported one death on Los Angeles County highways.

Statewide this year there were 10 deaths reported, compared to seven last year.

CHP officers in Los Angeles County made 52 DUI arrests during the period, down from last year’s total of 62.

Statewide, there were 263 DUI arrests, down from last year’s total of 280.
