A man was struck and killed by a Metrolink train Tuesday in Dana Point, authorities said.
The pedestrian was struck by Metrolink train 601 about 5:10 a.m. at the Pacific Coast Highway crossing, said Chris Gutierrez of Metrolink. The train was going from Oceanside to Los Angeles, he said.

It was not immediately clear why the man was on the tracks, said Orange County sheriff’s Lt. Lane Lagaret. Investigators were trying to determine if it was suicide or an accident, he said.
The victim, who was not immediately identified, had “sun-worn” tattoos, indicating he was an older man, Lagaret said.
The collision caused several hours of delays, but trains were back on track by the afternoon, Gutierrez said.
