Authorities are asking for the public’s assistance in tracking down two apparently armed robbers who held up a convenience store in Van Nuys while wearing “Hawthorne, California” sweatshirts.

The robbery occurred on Aug. 6 at the store at the corner of Van Nuys Boulevard and Valerio Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

One robber’s sweatshirt was red and the other’s sweatshirt was black, but both were emblazoned with “Hawthorne, California.”

The two men entered the convenience store and approached the cashier when of them pointed a handgun at the employee and demanded money from the cash register, police said.

The other suspect stood in front the cashier and demanded money while holding his waistband, police said.

The suspects grabbed the money from the cash drawer and fled on foot.

The suspect who pointed the handgun was described as black, about 25 years old, 5 feet 5 inches tall, 160 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a black sweatshirt with the words “Hawthorne California” written on the front and dark shorts.

The other suspect was described as black, also about 25 years old, 5 feet 7 inches tall, 180 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a red sweatshirt with the words “Hawthorne California” written on the front and dark shorts.

Detectives are looking for witnesses to the crime and ask that anyone with information about this case to call Van Nuys Robbery Detective Barba at (818) 374-0087.
