A double-murder and carjacking suspect was in custody Monday after a wild series of shootings a few blocks apart in the Lennox area.
The killer shot to death one victim, ran off and shot to death another victim and then ran again and shot a third man in a carjacking attempt.
The carjacking victim was the only one of the three victims to survive.
There was no immediate word from authorities what triggered the deadly violence, nor what relationship — if any — there was between the alleged killer and his victims.
The gunfire in the 10100 block of South Firmona Avenue was reported at 6:48 p.m. Sunday, according to Deputy Kelvin Moody of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
When deputies arrived, they found one man dead from a gunshot wound to the upper torso, Moody said.
They learned that a man suspected of the shooting might have run toward the 10600 block of Mansel Avenue where he shot another man, the deputy said. The second victim was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The suspect then ran toward the 10400 block of Mansel Avenue where he attempted a carjacking and shot the man driving the vehicle, Moody said. Arriving deputies detained the suspect without incident and the victim was taken to a hospital in fair condition.
The names of the victims were being withheld, pending notification of relatives.
“The motive and relationship, if any, between the victims and the suspect is unknown at this time,” Moody said. No other suspects were sought.
