A search was underway Monday for a 71-year-old Calimesa woman who disappeared while visiting a wilderness preserve a few miles east of her home.
Jolene Rooker was last seen Sunday before she headed to Wildwood Canyon State Park in Yucaipa.
According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Rooker’s vehicle was located in the park after a search was initiated during the night, but her whereabouts remain a mystery.
Along with Riverside County sheriff’s deputies, personnel from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department and Yucaipa Police Department are looking for the Calimesa resident.
It’s unclear why she was in the 900-acre preserve, which is popular for horseback riding, hiking and other off-road activity.
The park, situated in the foothills below the San Bernardino Mountains, is known for its wildlife, including black bear, bobcats and cougars.
Rooker is white, five feet and 170 pounds, with blue eyes and blonde shoulder-length hair. She was wearing dark blue jeans, a white plaid shirt and dark-colored shoes when last seen.
Anyone with information was asked to contact the sheriff’s Calimesa station at (951) 922-7100.
