Authorities Friday identified a young man who was killed in an officer-involved shooting at the end of a car chase in Van Nuys.
Oscar Anaya, 22, of Pacoima died at a hospital following the shooting, which was reported just after 4 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Sherman Way and Kester Avenue. No officers were hurt.
A gang unit from the LAPD’s Van Nuys Station began following the gray car, which officer believed was stolen, as it was driven eastbound on Sherman Way from Sepulveda Boulevard, according to LAPD Officer Tony Im.
During the pursuit, someone inside the vehicle opened fire on the pursuing police car, prompting officers to call for backup, Im said.
They continued following the gray car until it crashed into a light pole a short distance away at the intersection of Sherman Way and Kester Avenue, he said.
The male suspect exited the vehicle and an officer-involved shooting occurred, Im said, adding that two handguns were recovered.
Two women inside the vehicle were taken into custody. Their names were not immediately released.
