A man was found dead Thursday of an apparent self- inflicted gunshot wound in a car parked near the scene of a fire that slightly damaged an apartment building in the south Los Angeles area, authorities said.
Firefighters sent to the 8400 block of South Western Avenue about 8:40 a.m. extinguished the flames in one room of the two-story building in about 10 minutes, the Los Angeles Fire Department reported.
The man, about 35-40 years of age, was found dead inside a car parked outside the building, said Los Angeles police Sgt. Brian Churchill of the media relations office. The death was being investigated as an apparent suicide, Churchill said.
The name of the man was withheld, pending notification of relatives. It was not immediately known if the death was connected with the fire.
