A suspected DUI driver is in custody Wednesday after leading authorities in a chase from Garden Grove to Long Beach, authorities said.
Garden Grove officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the suspected drunken driver at 11:46 p.m. but he failed to stop and a pursuit ensued, said Garden Grove police Sgt. Juan Centeno.
The driver made his way to Long Beach and officers used a PIT maneuver to bring the pursuit to an end, Centeno said. The suspect attempted to counter the PIT maneuver, causing his vehicle to flip onto the driver’s side.
Officers ordered the driver and his occupant to exit the vehicle but they did not comply, according to Centeno. The officers used less lethal munitions to break out the rear window of the vehicle before they realized the driver and occupant were trapped inside, he said.
Officers assisted in freeing the men from the vehicle before they were taken to a local hospital to be treated for minor injuries, he said. No other injuries were reported.
The driver, identified as 31-year-old Christopher Guerrero, was arrested on suspicion of DUI and felony evading, Centeno said.
