An hours-long search by police and a K-9 unit in Valley Village resulted in the arrest of a grand theft auto/kidnapping suspect following a chase Monday.

It was not immediately known where and when the suspect was taken into custody, said Lt. Ignacio Verduzco of the Los Angeles Police Department’s North Hollywood Station.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of driving without the owner’s consent, said Verduzco, adding that he did not know the suspect’s name.

The suspect was taken into custody by officers from the LAPD’s Metropolitan Division, Verduzco said.

The pursuit began about 3:20 p.m. in the area of Fulton Avenue and Kittridge Street, said Tony Im of the LAPD’s Media Relations Section.

The suspect crashed his vehicle into an LAPD cruiser in the area of Laurel Canyon and Magnolia boulevards and fled the scene on foot, according to media reports.

A K-9 unit was dispatched to the scene to assist in the search for the suspect, Im said.

An LAPD detective at the scene told NBC4 that the search was on for two suspects, Marie De La Torre and David Sanchez, and that De La Torre had kidnapped an 11-month baby about three weeks ago from the Van Nuys area.
