Police Monday released surveillance images of two suspects sought in the shooting of a man during what investigators believe was an attempted carjacking near a Pomona gas station.

Officers were sent to an Arco station in the 800 block of Rio Rancho Avenue about 12:30 a.m. last Thursday and found a man with at least one gunshot wound.

The victim was parked near the station when an early 2000s black Nissan Sentra with several people inside arrived at the location. A man and a woman got out of the Nissan and the man approached the victim and fired several shots at him “in what appeared to be an attempted robbery/carjacking,” according to a Pomona Police Department statement. “The suspect vehicle and its occupants picked up the male and female and fled the area.”

The victim, a Pomona resident whose name was withheld, was rushed to a hospital with injuries that were described as critical. An update on his condition was not released.

Video from the scene showed a car crashed into a pillar near gas pumps at the station.

The man who got out of the Nissan was described as Hispanic, in his 30s with a moustache and tattoos on both arms. The woman was also described as Hispanic and in her 30s.

Anyone who recognizes the suspects from the surveillance images or who has information about the shooting was urged to call Pomona police at (909) 620-2085.

Anonymous tips can be submitted through Crime Stoppers by calling (800) 222-TIPS.
