An 18-year-old Riverside man who pummeled his girlfriend and held the young woman against her will pleaded guilty Thursday to felony and misdemeanor charges.

Jose Camacho admitted one count each of assault on a domestic partner, kidnapping, false imprisonment, robbery and recording images of a person’s intimate body parts without their consent, as well as a sentence-enhancing great bodily injury allegation.

The plea was submitted by the defendant directly to Riverside County Superior Court Judge Jack Lucky, without objection from the prosecution.

Lucky referred the matter to the Department of Probation for a sentencing recommendation and scheduled a sentencing hearing for July 25 at the Riverside Hall of Justice.

Camacho is free on a $90,000 bond.

He was arrested last September for the attack at the woman’s residence in the 4300 block of Columbia Avenue, near American Drive.

A couple weeks after his arrest, the defendant admitted assault charges under a plea agreement with the District Attorney’s Office, but that deal was invalidated on Oct. 11 by Lucky, who was disturbed by the injuries inflicted on the victim and did not believe the proposed sentencing terms, which weren’t disclosed, were proportionate to the offenses.

The case was then set for a preliminary hearing, and in February, Camacho was held to answer on all counts, setting the stage for a trial, slated to get underway this week.

According to Riverside police, on Aug. 23, Camacho confronted the victim, identified in court documents only as Jane Doe, and the encounter turned violent.

The defendant “repeatedly assaulted” the woman, inflicting “traumatic injuries to her face,” according to a police department statement.

The woman tried to get away, but Camacho prevented her escape, investigators said.

He eventually left the home, and the woman went to a hospital for treatment, at which point police were notified.

Officers were initially unsuccessful in locating the defendant, who was found and arrested uneventfully in east Riverside almost two weeks later.

Camacho has no documented prior felony convictions.
