One man was in custody Friday and Garden Grove police were looking for two others wanted in connection with a burglary that led to gunfire when a neighbor tried to stop the thieves, police said.
Police were called about 11:30 a.m. to the 13800 block of Rosita Place in Garden Grove regarding shots fired and a fight, Garden Grove police Lt. Carl Whitney said.
Two men broke into a home in the 13800 block of La Bonita Avenue and as they were fleeing with property a neighbor spotted them jumping a fence in his backyard and tried to detain them, Whitney said.
The neighbor had grown suspicious when he saw a black Navigator circling the neighborhood, so he armed himself with a handgun, Whitney said.
As the neighbor tried to detain the men at gunpoint the thieves lunged at him and struggle ensued, Whitney said.
At some point the gun went off and one of the suspects may have been wounded, the lieutenant said.
One of the suspects was tackled by other neighbors and the suspect who may have been wounded jumped into the Navigator, which fled the scene, Whitney said.
The burglary suspect who was detained by neighbors was treated at an area hospital for minor injuries, he said.
Anyone with information was asked to call police at (714) 741-5800.
