A 19-year-old man described as a documented gang member on parole for gun offenses was arrested Wednesday in Pomona after police found him allegedly in possession of a loaded firearm.
Jonathan Gonzalez of Ontario was arrested about 5:30 p.m. in the 700 block of South Linden Street on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm, being a felon in possession of ammunition, possessing an unregistered firearm, possessing a loaded concealed firearm and violating his parole, according to the Pomona Police Department.
Members of the Pomona Police Department’s Major Crimes Task Force were conducting a high visibility patrol in response to recent calls for service regarding narcotics and gang activity and made contact with Gonzalez, who was loitering at a home known to be frequented by gang members, police said.
“During the stop, officers learned that Gonzalez is a documented gang member who is on parole for prior gun charges,” according to a police statement. “A subsequent search of Gonzalez’ vehicle yielded a loaded firearm.”
Gonzalez was booked at the Pomona city jail.
