A Huntington Beach man pleaded guilty Tuesday to taking part in a scheme, allegedly led by a Santa Ana-based psychiatrist, to disseminate prescriptions for opioids and other drugs without medical need.

William Jason Plumley, 40, admitted one federal count each of distribution of methamphetamine and conspiracy to distribute controlled substances, said Assistant U.S. Attorney Rosalind Wang.

Plumley is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 13. It was unclear how many years in prison he may be facing because officials have not yet calculated how much his prior criminal history will affect the sentence.

Plumley was indicted in June, along with Dr. Robert Tinoco Perez, 56, of Westminster, who has a March trial date.

Perez is accused of writing the prescriptions for drugs — such as oxycodone, hydrocodone and amphetamine salts — that Plumley sold. The two shared the profits during their alleged partnership, which lasted from 2017 through February of this year, according to Plumley’s plea agreement.

Plumley also admitted he sold 26.94 grams of methamphetamine on Jan. 16 in a Super 8 Motel parking lot on Harbor Boulevard in Costa Mesa, according to his plea agreement.

In one deal, Plumley paid Perez $700 for a prescription for 90 tablets of 30 mg Roxicodone, one of the brand names for oxycodone, a powerful opioid painkiller, according to the plea agreement.
