A 21-year-old convict who escaped from a Male Community Reentry Program Facility in Los Angeles was captured Thursday and returned to prison.
Authorities were notified about 10 p.m. Tuesday that Moses Lewis, who was convicted in 2017 of first-degree burglary and the transport/import of a controlled substance, had left the facility without authorization, and an unsuccessful search was initiated, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
Lewis was captured about 2:20 p.m. in Los Angeles by CDCR agents and taken to California Institution for Men in Chino.
He had been transferred to the re-entry facility on April 17 from North Kern State Prison, where he had been serving a two-year sentence, under a program that allows eligible offenders to serve the last year of their sentences in a reentry center and provides them with programs and tools to transition back to civilian life.
His case will now be referred to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for possible prosecution on escape charges.
