A 27-year-old Garden Grove man was convicted Wednesday of the fatal shooting of another gang member in Stanton last year.
Alfredo Quiroz-Muniz was convicted of first-degree murder with a special circumstances allegation of doing so for a gang. Jurors also found true a sentencing enhancement for the personal discharge of a gun causing death.
Quiroz-Muniz, who is scheduled to be sentenced Feb. 15, faces life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Co-defendant Noe Lezama, 27, is scheduled to go on trial Jan. 25.
Quiroz-Muniz shot and killed 25-year-old Freddy Temple on Feb. 28, 2017, said Deputy District Attorney Chris Alex.
Temple was shot in the back, Alex told jurors in his opening statement of the trial.
Temple, who was in a rival gang of the defendants, had fired his gun that afternoon near Cerritos Avenue and Yana Drive and then ditched the gun and his shirt in an alley, Alex said.
Later, the defendants were seen on home video surveillance pulling up to the victim in a car with Quiroz-Muniz stepping out of the passenger seat and opening fire on Temple at Dale and Lola avenues, Alex said.
