A 31-year-old man was jailed in Pomona Saturday morning after police found him carrying a loaded gun that had been converted to a fully automatic pistol.
At 9 p.m. Friday, members of the Pomona Police Department’s Major Crimes Task Force and California Highway Patrol officers working gang suppression made contact with the suspect in the north alley of the 300 block of Orchid Lane and discovered the modified weapon, along with additional ammunition, including a high capacity magazine, a military- type bulletproof vest and drugs, according to PPD Cpl. J. Hernandez.
The suspect, identified as Ivan Cortez of Pomona, was booked at the Pomona city jail on gun and drug charges, Hernandez said.
“The City of Pomona is dedicated to addressing quality of life issues and often uses department wide resources to accomplish one common goal of ensuring the safety of our community,” Hernandez said.
