A 53-year-old man suspected of shooting out the window of a parked car in an act of rage in Jurupa Valley was being held Wednesday in lieu of $10,000 bail.
Steven Ponce Madrid of San Bernardino was arrested Tuesday and booked into the Robert Presley Jail on suspicion of reckless gunfire and making criminal threats.
About 5 p.m. Monday, Madrid went to a residence in the 4000 block of Leigh Street, near Molino Way, where he got into an argument — the subject of which was not disclosed — with the unidentified property owner, according to sheriff’s Sgt. Ernie Esquibel.
He alleged that Madrid left the location, only to return two hours later armed with a .22-caliber pistol.
“A witness observed Madrid walk up to the victim’s vehicle and fire several bullets … into the rear window,” Esquibel alleged.
No one was in or near the car at the time, he said.
Detectives obtained a search warrant for Madrid’s home in the 1300 block of Walnut Street, where the suspect was taken into custody without a struggle at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.
There was no word on whether the firearm was seized.
Madrid has no documented prior felony convictions in Riverside or San Bernardino counties.
