A 40-year-old transient with warrants out for his arrest in Los Angeles County is in custody Friday, accused of burglarizing a residential garage in Norco, sheriff’s officials said.

Deputies responded to a home in the 4900 block of Viceroy Avenue at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday after being told someone was inside a garage there, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said.

The suspect fled the residence prior to the deputies arriving, but the homeowner provided deputies with “vital identifying information,” according to the department, as well as the suspect’s location.

Deputies subsequently located a man — later identified as Nathan Ahern — at the Hidden Valley Nature Center on Arlington Avenue in Riverside, where deputies found unspecified burglary evidence in his possession.

He was arrested under the name “John Doe” on suspicion of burglary and impeding an investigation for allegedly refusing to give deputes his name.

His name was later discovered during the booking process, as well as two felony warrants from Los Angeles County regarding alleged arson.

Ahern is jailed at the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside without bail, and is scheduled to be arraigned Friday at the Riverside Hall of Justice.
