Lifeguards Saturday rescued a 75-year-old man reported missing from Las Vegas who jumped off the Seal Beach Pier in an attempt to end his life, a police sergeant said.
“First responders discovered the man clinging weakly to a pier pylon,” Seal Beach Police Sgt. Nick Nicholas said. “He told first responders that he jumped in an attempt to end his life.”
Police received a call about 9 a.m. from a witness who saw a man jump into the water, Nicholas said.
Police officers, the Orange County Fire Authority and Seal Beach Marine Safety responded to the pier. The man was rescued by lifeguards, he said.
He appeared uninjured, but was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
