A Garden Grove-based tax preparer pleaded guilty Monday to filing false tax returns, causing nearly $5 million in losses, federal prosecutors said.
Michael Hung Lee, 70, of Garden Grove pleaded guilty to conspiracy to aid and assist in preparing false tax returns, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
His daughter, Mylinh Thi Lee, 50, of Garden Grove, pleaded guilty on June 15 to aiding and assisting in the preparation of false tax returns. She was also a tax preparer at her father’s company, 1040 U.S. Tax Center Inc., and is scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 26, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
The two helped their clients file fraudulent tax returns to illegally receive refunds, according to prosecutors.
Michael Lee is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 16.
