Two men were jailed Saturday morning on suspicion of identity theft and other charges after a traffic stop in Pomona.
Officers stopped a vehicle with three people inside in the 1400 block of East Holt Avenue at 5:45 p.m. Friday after spotting a seatbelt violation. It was discovered the juvenile driver was unlicensed and one of the passengers had a no bail warrant for his arrest, according to Sgt. M. Medellin of the Pomona Police Department.
Further investigation turned up stolen access cards and large sums of cash among each of the persons in the vehicle, Medellin said.
Officers suspected the trio was involved in an identity theft ring and obtained a search warrant for a room at a Pomona motel where they were staying. Inside the room, officers found about $40,000 cash, an unregistered, loaded gun, an ounce of methamphetamine and additional items that suggested fraud and identity theft, he said.
David Rojas, 39, of Pomona and Tommy Padilla, 19, of Palmdale were arrested and booked into the Pomona city jail. The juvenile was cited and released to a parent, Medellin said.
The two men are scheduled to be in court Tuesday.
