A vehicle crashed into a tree, went down an embankment and caught fire, killing one person Friday morning on the Azusa Avenue onramp to the eastbound Foothill (210) Freeway in Azusa.

The crash occurred about 2:15 a.m. and the vehicle became fully engulfed in flames following the crash, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The southbound Azusa Avenue onramp to the eastbound Foothill Freeway was closed for more than three hours before reopening about 5:25 a.m., the CHP said. Lanes of the freeway were not affected.

The cause of the crash was under investigation.

The name of the victim was not disclosed.
