A 40-year-old motorist suspected of driving drunk was arrested in connection with a two-vehicle, hit-and-run crash in Irvine that fatally wounded a 20-year-old Irvine woman in the other vehicle, a police sergeant said Sunday.
Police were dispatched a little after 8:45 p.m. Saturday to a crash at the intersection of Main Street and Culver Drive involving a white Ford F-150 and a black Hyundai Elantra, where the driver of the pickup truck fled the scene, Irvine Police Sgt. Karie Davies said.
The pickup was stopped a short distance away from the crash by police and its driver, Antonio Calixto Navarrete of San Clemente, was arrested on suspicion of felony hit and run, felony DUI and murder, Davies said.
Paramedics rushed a passenger in the black Hyundai to Orange County Global Medical Center in Santa Ana, where she later died from her injuries, she said.
The Irvine Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team urged anyone with information regarding the crash to call them at 714-724-7000.
