A 13-year-old bicyclist struck by a car Monday in Fountain Valley was fighting for his life in a local hospital.
The boy was hit by a 1996 Nissan Frontier about 11:20 a.m. at Brookhurst Street and Slater Avenue. The vehicle was southbound on Brookhurst and the teen was pedaling east on Slater at the time, police said.
The teen, whose name was withheld, was taken to a hospital in critical but stable condition, according to police, who said the Nissan’s driver, 21-year-old Salvador Diaz Carrillo of Santa Ana, remained on scene.
The driver was cooperating with investigators, who do not suspect that alcohol or drugs played a part in the collision, police said.
