A young man accused of fatally shooting a 19-year-old Wildomar resident was due to make his initial court appearance Friday afternoon in Murrieta.
Joshua Emanuel Navarro, 18, of Lake Elsinore was arrested Monday for allegedly shooting Blake Paine to death.
Navarro is charged with murder, assault with a semiautomatic rife, possession of an assault weapon and sentence-enhancing gun and great bodily injury allegations.
He is being held on $1 million bail at the Byrd Detention Center and slated to appear before Riverside County Superior Court Judge Stephen Gallon at the Southwest Justice Center.
Paine was fatally shot about 4:30 p.m. Sunday in the 100 block of Riley Street, near Sumner Avenue, according to sheriff’s Sgt. Steve Brosche.
Patrol deputies were sent to the residential area to investigate reports of a shooting and discovered Paine on the ground, suffering from a wound to the upper body. The assailant had fled in an unknown direction, Brosche said.
The victim was taken to Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar, where he died a short time later, Brosche said.
In the ensuing 24 hours, detectives amassed undisclosed evidence pointing to Navarro as the alleged shooter, he said.
A motive was not mentioned.
Investigators took the defendant into custody without incident at a residence on Limited Avenue in Lake Elsinore about 3 p.m. Monday.
Navarro has no documented prior felony convictions.
