A 22-year-old San Jacinto man who molested a girl and downloaded child pornography from the internet was sentenced Wednesday to nearly four years in state prison.

Ramiro Gonzalez Cano pleaded guilty last month to lewd acts on a child under 14 years old and possession of child porn. In exchange for his admissions, the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office dropped four related felony counts.

Superior Court Judge Timothy Hollenhorst certified the terms of the plea agreement and imposed the sentence stipulated by the prosecution and defense.

Cano was arrested in January following a multi-agency investigation that was initiated based on information provided by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.

The nonprofit uncovered evidence that the defendant had been procuring child porn online, and a search warrant was obtained and served at his residence, according to prosecutors.

“After Cano was arrested, investigators obtained evidence that he … had been molesting a girl who was known to him,” according to a D.A.’s office statement.

The victim, identified in court documents only as Jane Doe, revealed that the abuse had occurred in 2019.

It was unclear how the defendant and victim knew one another, and the specific circumstances behind the acts were not disclosed.

Cano had no documented prior felony convictions.
