Firefighters from the city of Los Angeles and Ventura County worked together to free two young men trapped inside their overturned car that went over the side of a road in Chatsworth.

The crash near 22820 W. Santa Susana Pass was reported just before 6 p.m., said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey.

An LAFD helicopter illuminated the wrecked car while firefighters used ropes to climb about 70 feet down the hillside to get to the victims, Humphrey said.

Firefighters freed the men, who were saved from serious injury because they were wearing their seat belts, he said. With help from the firefighters, the men managed to climb back up the hillside using the ropes.

One man declined treatment by paramedics. The other, who suffered injuries and was in fair condition, was transported to a hospital for treatment, Humphrey said.

The crash was being investigated by Los Angeles Police Department’s Valley Traffic Division.
