Two burglary suspects captured on cell phone video fleeing a Target where they were accused of stealing items were taken into custody, Seal Beach police said Monday.

William Erwin, 36, and Daniella Carpenter, 22, were arrested Sunday at a hotel in El Segundo, according to the Seal Beach Police Department.

The suspects were seen on cell phone video captured by a witness about 12:50 p.m. Feb. 11 speeding away from the store at 12300 Seal Beach Boulevard in a white pickup truck.

Police said the man and woman entered the store and selected multiple items. The woman then exited, got into the pickup and drove it around the back of the building, where the man “quickly ran out of the store’s rear emergency exit,” according to police.

The pair was accused of stealing over $1,000 in merchandise, including high-end liquor and electronics, police said.

“Based on the excellent video captured by the witness, plus Target’s in-store video surveillance system, Seal Beach Police detectives quickly went to work identifying the suspects,” the police department said.

A search of the pair’s El Segundo hotel room Sunday uncovered a stolen handgun, cash and suspected heroin and methamphetamine, along with multiple IDs, credit cards and other items investigators believe were stolen, according to police.

Both were arrested on suspicion of burglary and conspiracy. Erwin also was suspected of being a felon in possession of a firearm, being a felon in possession of ammunition, possession of stolen property and more, police said.

Erwin and Carpenter were booked into the Orange County Jail.
